The rabbits – by Arran

Hello everyone, It is me, the Medium sized Scamp, Arran!

I am going to tell you something very important. All about some  toys Ladee keeps trapped all the way up and up the stairs. She gets very bossy about them, they are so very fun and interesting that as soon as I get a chance I run up the stairs as fast as I can. I am very fast and squiggly! Then I have to run up the next lot of stairs even quicker! Sometimes they are shut in their room and I bark at the door for Mum ladee to come and let them out. Sometimes they are out anyway and ladee comes upstairs after me and spoils my fun.

Ludo says they are called rabbit-dogs and they are my brofur and sisfur. They bounce around like little puppies and they have food up there, they are VERY exciting! I think they are cruelly imprisoned and I do not know why ladee keeps them trapped up there when they cannot get down. (They are like me, I can only go up right now, So I have to get someone to carry me down by barking very loudly once I get to the top of the stairs, I will not try and go down by myself, oh no.)

But don’t worry, I go and see them whenever I can.

At first, when I was just a little scamp, Faline did not like me and she would charge at me and try and get me with her front feet and I was scared and said ‘help me Mum ladee!’ and ladee would pick me up or put me behind her, but now that I am a medium sized scamp I am not scared anymore and Faline has ‘gotten used to me’ and she does not attack me anymore. Ladee is very mean sometimes and says horrible words to me about being something called ‘respectful’ and not chasing the toys. I have no idea what respectful is and I don’t think I need to learn it. It sounds pretty boring, doesn’t it?

All I know is that if I do a good boy sit or lie down and not a running about after Faline, or putting my paws on her or Molly (Molly does not move, if he doesn’t want to no matter what I do, so I can’t chase him) then I get to stay longer.

Here Arran, I'll show you.

“This what called ‘being respectful’ you has to be polite and pretend to Mum that the rabbit-dogs be the bosses. Otherwise you will get tellings off and no more allowed on the  rabbit-dogs floor.”

I can do that Ludo, I will sniff both of your ears!

Now we play Mouthy Jousty?

Now we play Mouthy Jousty?

Ladee did not like that idea. She said ‘no biting near the rabbits’. I think Faline wanted to play too, right?

They went back to their crate and I am not allowed in there, but I did manage to find this toy of theirs. Finders keepers!

I really like my rabbit-dog brofur and sisfur toys. I even like their pellet food that they get at night and I try and grab a whole mouthful and run away before ladee can stop me. She can be quick when she wants to be though!

I will report more on my bid to free my toys rabbit siblings another time.

Elanmore Beach Boy and more on Elanmore!

Hello everyone! It is me, little scamp! It took a lot of effort but Ludo ‘agreed’ to letting me post on his blog. He lets me do lots of stuff. I just get my own way by beating him up a lot and then running away really fast when he gets mad at me!

My lady person, mumDee said I had to learn how to express myself on the blog properly before she would type for me as she gets fed up translating Ludo’s ideas on grammar. I don’t know what grammar is but it sounds tasty! I like to eat everything!

I am called Arran, after an Island in Scotland. I have never been there because it is a whole country away and I cannot walk very far yet. I am a shetland sheepdog like Ludo, only I am a different colour.

I am also called Elanmore Beach Boy. My first family let my new people help name me. I have been to the beach already and I like running around with Ludo on it and picking up seaweed.

People that I meet outside like me a lot and I have gotten brave and like getting cuddles, but only from nice quiet ladys like my Laydee, or nice boys like my first family’s Jack. Then I lick them and roll on my back to show I like them. But they keep on asking if Ludo is my Mum!

I have my own dog Mum!  Here I am, inside her tummy! She is called Bridie.

Here I am as a small baby. Of course I am much bigger now and my Dadperson has started calling me Medium sized scamp instead of Little Scamp.

I am the one with more white.

I got hand fed too as I wasn’t putting on enough weight

Same tugger as first photo!
My sisters Jewel and Beryl.
I was not sure I wanted to go with this strange laydee!

My laydee is going to show you my dog family because I have gotten fed up with sitting still!

-Wiggles, Arran.

With huge Thanks to Arran and Ludo’s first family, Katharine and Laura (who we’ve met before on the blog) I have lots of photos to share!

Here are his parents, Bridie and Porgy, and the tail end of another sheltie. lol!

This is Arran’s Sire, Porgy (Elanmore King’s Double)

This next photo is Arran’s Great Grandmother Jill (Elanmore Shady Lady) on the right (looking up) and his Great Great Great Grandfather Roly (Dalsetter D’Rothschild)

Roly and Jill (Roly is Jill’s Grandfather)

Now this handsome fellow below is where Ludo and Arran connect. This is Elanmore Jack Flash, he is Arran’s Great Great Grandfather, Father of Jill above, and he is Ludo’s Grandfather, so they are kin.

Here is Flash on holiday at 16 years old.  He is at the Rainbow bridge now.
This lovely old lady is Milady of Zeerust at Elanmore. She is Ludo’s great grandmother and Arran’s too through a different strand), she’s also his great great great grandmother somewhere… line breeding is, after all, common in pedigree dogs (and royalty ;p)

Speaking of Ludo, This is Ludo’s Mum Thistle (Meadowpark Blue Thistle from Elanmore) as a baby!
I have become a bit nerdy with all this pedigree stuff. I think it is really cool that through good breeders we can research the history of our dogs. They bigify.

And just some more random photos from when we collected Arran.

Excuse me, I have to go and stop a puppy from splashing in the water bowl now.

p.s. I’m really considering moving over to wordpress, I use an ipad a lot and wordpress blogs seem a lot friendlier to it. I even opened an account. But I don’t want to lose all the posts. 😦 What to do!

This and That.

We just beed going about normal life lately, nothing very exciting happening. Sally still here, but going home monday or tuesday. We has lots of fun and I will miss her but she sure do hamper my practicing for Honey’s Dancing with the Doggy Stars!

Yesterday she even had the cheek to chew on my Stag Bar chew.

Um.. Mum, is you gonna let this continue?
But it ok, cos I got some empty food rubbish to lick. I still likes to chew up food packaging, only now I don’t steal it and run off and hide, Mum has gived up and just gives it to me now. This one had nougat in it.
Mum bought me and Sally a new toy each, I got a squeaky ball and she got a bear stuffie, really it to stop her destuffing all mine! I wont have any toys left. She likes my ball too though.
So that the this and this the that…
See Sally hiding over there by Mum’s legs? She ascared of my sis-fur! Really she scared cos she wants to heard them all up but Sally hates getting told off so tries not to go near them. Of course Faline be Faline and not care and walks all over poor Sally. Literally! Now Mum says I must point out that she would not let most dogs near the rabbits like this but she has knowed Sally for 8 years and is sure of her, especially cos when they first moved here they had a cat called Mitzey who be a very scary little cat (she went to the bridge afore I met her) she completely bossed every dog she met and Mum said when they first got little puppy Auntie Penny Mitzey would scratch her nose whenever she got too close. We have Mitzey to thank for the fact that Auntie Penny would never even think about chasing the rabbits and when Mitzey first met Sally, Sally went to chase her and was so suprised to be met with a bristly hissy scratchy ball of black fur that she hid and she was too scared to even go out of the room to go past Mitzey. Mitzey knew how afraid the dogs were of her and even when strange dogs would come to the house she would saunter right through them and sit in the middle of the room, flicking her tail and staring them out. BOL!
Most dogs would not be able to resist chasing my rabbit-dog siblings, even if they is used to cats because rabbits is prey animals and their instinct be to run away or freeze when they get scared. That the reason why Mum decided to get a puppy (me) instead of an adult dog from a rescue, because the rabbits got here first and they is not used to being cooped up in a cage. From the first day I came I got rewarded for lying down and being calm around them and when I got a bit older I’d also get mean voice if I tried to chase them. Plus it might have helped that Faline boxed at me if I got too close! Sometimes at bedtime I do help Mum herd them up. Although Faline do sometimes ignore me and run back through my legs, and really I is trying to get some of their food anyways. hehe!
See puppies generally want to be friends with efurryone! I used to try and curl up with my cat-bro Pepe all the time and sit with the rabbit-dogs too. Plus I got socialised very young to animals like pigs and chickens and sheeps when we visited old Daddy’s parents place.
So all this means I has a very low prey drive and chase instinct, except for a tennis ball!! I can walk right through a field of sheep without even batting an eyelid! Mum doesn’t know if that my natural way, or if it be because of the clicker training, or the socialisation or what, but we know Auntie Penny does not chase rabbits but she will chase sheep and Sally doesn’t chase sheep but she WANTS to chase cats and rabbits, she just wont cos she knows she shouldn’t and she scared of getting scratched.
Look at my good body language! I is turning my head as a calming signal to show my bro-fur Rocky and to prove to Mum that I is not threatening or interested in chasing him. Rocky really liked me and Pepe and we miss him a lot still.

Here me and Faline both begging for treats.

Here puppy me watching my sisfur Mina eat weeds. I tried to eat some too after watching her but they not taste nice.

And ehre me meeting sheeeps for the first time, they stamped at me. After this I decided I had more in common with rabbits and so stopped being a Shetland Sheepdog and became instead a Shetland Rabbit dog.
